Race is a manmade social construct that is set to categories us as humans by our physical characteristics, but also enforce a hierarchy. Thought history each races struggled to obtain or maintain dominance. They did this by a process which I like to call, “Seek and Destroy”. It started out with a group of individuals who invaded a land, killed the indigenous people, and changed the way of life to fit their standards. As years progressed more people came from all around the world to claim their own piece of it.…

In the dictionary, “race” is defined as any one of the groups that human beings can be divided into based on shared distinctive physical trait. When the Europeans began to mark their territory after settling in America, they began dividing peoples into groups by distinctive physical traits essentially creating the idea of race in the eighteenth century. They acknowledged the obvious differences in the way they looked and how they lived their lives, and used this to create groups and divide people into the groups that suited them the best. Once, the groups were in place, the English established dominance and power over all peoples. Race has been said to consist of biological factors by just about everyone, but through careful research and analysis, it is quite clear that race does not exist, rather it is a social construct made to differentiate…

Humans are born into inequality. Race, gender, and economic status, three things which are beyond control, prohibit and enable many to fail while only few to succeed. These three restrictions are the defining issue which ails society and creates stereotypes, destroying what little chance of success was left. However, continuing the Cold War struggle for racial equality would be the most effective way for the United States to improve the present while preparing for the future. White Americans rushed to the suburbs, abandoning the inner city.…

The human race should improve upon itself before making contact with another race. The human race is too arrogant by believing they are the best race and belittling other races. In the story a martian odyssey (Stanley Weinbaum) there is not a lot to prove my thesis but there is some at the start of the story when our protagonist he thinks tweel is not an intelligent creature but is quickly proven wrong when he tries to communicate with him he quickly picks up the words to have a very basic conversation using the numbers and basics words like bad, rock, (see page five for more information.) Jarvis also found out tweel people use telescopes because he placed the moon on the third planet not the second planet.…

I believe the best way to improve race relations in America is to teach and encourage humility in children's lives and as adults. I find that many people are intolerant to not only cultural differences from their peers but also economic differences like whether or not a person is a middle-class citizen. Most Americans will say they don’t care what class a person is considered to be in as long as they are trying and contributing their share of work and they also don’t care that a person may dress or eat differently than they do as long as they are able to make sense of it. The problem with both of these situations is that they all come back to the initial person that is making a judgment based off of their views when it does not matter what…

Reading one Question: 1) Why was the social classification of race invented? Race being the social classification in which we distinguish one another by our ethnic and or regional background, enables us to not only create, but uphold systematic social status throughout the world. As proven through scientific research, race is not a substantive concept, but rather an unfounded concept that has been used to separate the human race overtime. This being the case, race was invented to create social class ranks; which sanctioned the appalling treatment of non-whites throughout the past couple of centuries. Is Afrocentrism a response to racism?…

Sometimes I ask myself, “what would it be like to live my life fighting off the discrimination of the world because of the color of my skin?”. Personally, I can not imagine living a life where I am treated differently and pushed to the outside by the images of society just because of the color of my skin. Every human being is unique in their own way, whether it be personality, looks or even a special talent, but the color of skin should not matter. Racism is a huge human rights issues in today 's time, it challenges the right of equality to all humans. Everyone has learned about slavery and the civil rights movement in a history class.…

All throughout time, people have been divided due to their differences. People who see others that are different from them will often immediately decide that they are “weird” and put those people lower than themselves. According to Linda Holtzman and Leon Sharpe in their passage, “Theories and Constructs of Race,” Race is just a social construct made by humans to exclude people based on what they look like, where they are from, their culture, etc. If scientists were to look at someone’s deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) compared to another person with, say, different colored skin, they would notice that there is not much of a difference between the two people. Therefore, as Holtzman and Sharpe say, “race is constructed socially, culturally, politically,…
