The thirty-one states that have “shall issue” laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24% lower violent crime rate, a 19% lower murder rate, and a 39% lower robbery rate than the states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than two million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns. There is simply no correlation between gun control laws and murder or suicide rates across a wide spectrum of nations and cultures. (Lampo 1)
An average of eighty-nine people die from gun violence in the US every day, from school children to victims of domestic violence to people going about their daily lives. Establishing a culture of gun safety is recommended. (Prevention institute 1)

The ATF has established an Internet Investigation Center to track illegal online firearms trafficking. Also, President Obama proposed a new $500 million investment to increase access to mental health care, which will allow FBI to run more in-depth background checks. President Obama has also directed the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security to conduct or sponsor research into gun safety technology. He has also directed the departments to review the availability of smart gun technology on a regular basis, and to explore potential ways to further its use and development to more broadly improve gun safety. (Somanader 1) In conclusion, gun control is a very sensitive debate, many say too much gun control will cause more gun violence and others say that stricter gun laws will reduce gun violence. Who knows who is right, there are facts backing both sides. Firearms can be dangerous in the wrong hands and that is why there is so much gun violence because guns fall into the hands of criminals and drug
