The experimental study conducted by Asch 's "Forming Impressions of Personality" (1946), is a classic study of interpersonal perception. Asch believed that the traits of the person that we believe they possess are the most important factor in establishing the overall impression of that person. In Asch (1946) study, he used different types of measures to analyze the responses of participants which include open-ended measure, trait-pair choice measure, and ranking measure. The participants were given a list of traits containing the word "warm" or a list containing the word "cold" which included traits considering warm and cold. Then, the participants observed the target based on these three different measures. According to Asch, participants rated “warm” and “cold” as central factor in determining their impression. From his study, the trait-pair choice measure result concluded that changing a trait in a list from positive, “warm” to negative “cold” changes the overall impression of the participant to negative.
