For example, when William got captured he was brave as he stood up to the judge. The judge asked William, "Confess and you may receive a quick death. Deny and you must be purified with pain" (Braveheart 2:30:46). William had an opportunity to confess and pledge allegiance to the king but he refused. William said to the judge, "Never in my whole life, did I swear allegiance to him" (Braveheart 2:30:34). If William pledged to the king, his barbaric acts would have been for nothing. Wallace believed no man pledged to be ruled by a king who took away their freedom. An example of William being strong would be before he was taken to be hanged. William asked God, "I’m so afraid. Give me the strength to die well" (Braveheart 2:36:48). Even though …show more content…
Williams’s reaction to their childish act revealed how strong he was. Wallace was then stretched and hanged but not killed, yet. The executioner dropped Wallace from the rope. William was then asked to pledge allegiance to the crown. William denies. Wallace then stood up gasping and wheezing for air. Even though Wallace was being tortured, he stood up and showed how much strength he has. Wallace was laid down and quartered. Again, he was given another chance to pledge allegiance and be given mercy. He denied. William then said, "FREEEEDOOOOM!" (Braveheart 2:45:11). William Wallace was then decapitated. Wallace giving this speech shows he wants his countrymen to not flee because they are outnumbered. He tries to convince them in fighting for freedom. He then said, "For just one chance- Just one chance- to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom?" (Braveheart 1:13:11). Wallace inspires his countrymen to fight for a chance to win independence. For William to inspire his men he is fueling his fire of continuing his quest. An example of William showing generosity is when Wallace disguised himself and his people as the soldiers from the first raid at Lanark. Wallace was able to get into one of the King's garrisons and take over. He then allows Morrison to kill the noble lord who slept with his wife. Wallace says, "And the rest of you will be spared" (Braveheart 59:39). When Wallace spares the lives of the soldiers he is showing generosity towards them. William could of killed every one of the men but he let them live to see another day and give a message to England. Wallace's message is, "Go back to England and tell them there. That Scotland's daughters and her sons are yours no more. Tell them Scotland is free" (Braveheart 59:44). Wallace then burns the garrison down to the ground. William Wallace shows the
