Experiences that are important to me
Everyone has had moments that are very important in their own lives. In my past experiences, two of my most important moments include me having a Quiceñera and my brother leaving to college. Although these two moments are different, they both made me feel a certain way and they helped me become more mature. A Quiceñera is a traditional celebration in Hispanic culture that occurs when a female turns 15 years old. It has both religious and partying aspects. My Quiceñera was last year on June 24th. My cousin did my hair and makeup in the morning since the celebration was early in the afternoon. After she finished, we went to the venue where the party was going to be to finish making decorations and setting up. A lot of my family members came to help set up. When it was time, we walked over to the church. My grandfather, who was doing the service, helped me and explained how things were going to go during the ceremony. The church service was fun and my whole family showed up. Afterwards, we went and had a fun time at the party. Even after that, everyone helped clean up. This day helped me realize how my family is caring and supporting and how we all help each other.

My brother and I were really close. He was going to go to Chico State and even though it’s only 2 hours away, it would mean I wouldn’t see him very often. The day he left, I was really sad but I knew that it would be okay. When he left, things changed in my household. I had more chores and responsibilities. I was also always having to take care of my little brother. Since my little brother liked my older brother more, he wouldn’t want to listen to me. My older brother always helped me with my problems but since he was so busy in college, I had to learn to be more independent and solve problems by myself. It was overall a difficult experience, but it helped me become a stronger

Traditionally, this coming-of-age celebration was intended “to introduce girls to society and signify they were ready for marriage” (Quinceañera: Coming of age in a bad economy by Nancy Lofholm of The Denver Post). Nowadays, this momentous occasion recognizes girls as women who are capable of wearing makeup and dating.…

At the tender age of thirteen, my brother found himself having to be the one to care for me while my parents worked. As my parents built buildings, my brother and I spent our afternoons and nights watching horror movies. When his friends would come over, he would wrap me up in my mom's comforter and tie it with a jump rope so I couldn't join them. At the time, it was irritating and even a little hurtful, but his childish antics along with being left alone only taught me to be independent. Both of my parents had to work two jobs, and even then, our family was barely getting by.…

We started planning in late 2012, we were looking at churches for the blessing, restaurants for the dinner, we were also looking for a dress.
