Sociological Approach To Sociology

In this summary I will be discussing some important aspects surrounding Sociology, which is an extremely interesting subject that teaches you a lot about what society is truly about. Before reading George Ritzer’s “Introduction to Sociology” I had an idea on what Sociology was, but I didn’t fully understand the background of it. Now I know how Sociologist have come to recent understandings surrounding Sociology and how they differ from some past sociologist. Today Sociologist tend to focus on trends in globalization and consumption, which I will be discussing in the summary. I will be describing what Sociologist mean by Mcdonaldization of Society, and also how sociologies approach to studying social life. We’ll also be discussing the differences between science and social reform. Lastly we will discuss the ways sociological knowledge differs from common sense. Sociological imagination gives sociologist a distinctive way of looking at data or reflecting on the world around them, which allow them to have a better understanding of socially things are evolving. Examining the relationships between private troubles and public issues is another way sociologist study social life. The link between the two is sometimes unheard of, but in sociology the link between them is obvious. When an individual is experiencing a private struggle like being in debt and having to file for bankruptcy, it becomes a public issue when extremely high levels of bankruptcy cause banks to fail. Another example could be individuals with ADHD, which means attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The disorder was seen as a private trouble and got no national recognition, but as numbers began to rise of kids with this disorder it became a public issue.
