Kelly these legislators thought the prison being in Yuma would be a great boost for the economy. In fact the prison was a great boost for the economy it helped a lot when the prison opened in Yuma it was knows for many things like the rules and such but when the prison closed it helped out many people like it helped when Yuma High burned down the prison was used as a school and now because the prison being used as a school the criminals is now the mascot. Though Alcatraz had many famous prisoners whom are more known to today’s society, Yuma prison had many famous prisoners known to the then society. They were known for their strict rules, Alcatraz was the place they’d send other prisoners who could not behave at other institutions while Yuma was known for their strict rules and punishments for not bathing or making weapons etc. Each prison was onced used for military purposes. Yuma was used in the 1850’s and Alcatraz served as a civil war fortress and military prison. Each prison made it almost impossible to escape. Around Yuma there was quick sand therefore prisoners would get caught and Alcatraz well it’s an island 1.5 of a mile to shore and 121 feet above sea level thus making it a lot harder to escape there and anywhere
