The importance of worship (ibadah) can be understood in the following verse of Qur’an, chapter 51, verse 36:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to Worship me”
(Wama khalaqtu aljinna wal-insailla liyaAAbudoon)
Al-Ibadah is a term which comprises everything Allah is pleased with from outward and inner sayings of actions (Ibn Taymīyah, 1999).
The purpose of humanity is to worship Allah, the Creator. There is no doubt concerning that. A mu’min should spend their lives for the sake of Allah. The human mind is incapable to grasp the wisdom as well as decide what is best for him in the long run without the Guidance of Allah Azwajal, hence, Allah SubhanawaTa’ala didn’t leave humans to worship Him the way they’d desire, …show more content…
It is also an important act of worship.
“Indeed, I am Allah . There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.”
(Qur’an, 20:14)
This verse clarifies that worshipping Allah and establishing prayer go hand in hand.
Status: Salah carries an obligatory status in Islam. It is compulsory for Muslims to pray five times a day.
“…Indeed, prayer decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.”
(Qur’an, 4:103)
Consequences of Leaving Salah: Salah is an obligation on Muslims, so, there will be consequences if one leaves the obligatory Salah without a valid reason. It is quoted in At-Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 2621,
“The covenant between us and them is the Salat, whoever abandons it has committed disbelief.”
This establishes that the essence of being a Muslim is in performing the five obligatory prayers.
Also, the punishment of abandoning prayer is hell-fire as noted in the verses,
“[And asking them] What put you into Saqar (hellfire)?” They will say, “We were of those who did not pray,”
(Qur’an, …show more content…
CONCLUSION:
The acts of worship I have selected are mainly on the basis that a person does not require any specific dispositions to perform these acts of worship. But at the same time these acts of worship help us:
• Develop an Islamic Personality in the sight of Allah
• Develop patience
• Develop certainty of Allah Azwajal
• Be a constant reminder that Allah Azwajal is with his slaves.
• Develop stronger character
• Gain Allah’s pleasure and blessings and many more.
Along with this, these acts of worship do not require special prerequisites, and can be integrated in our daily day to day activities and our constant schedule, so much so, that they can become natural to us to worship Allah as we live.
