I would love to welcome everyone to our professional development session on how educators best support children 's wellness and wellbeing.

Before we go through this we need to all have an understanding of what is wellness and wellbeing. So what is wellness? With the person next to you joint down some words that relate to what you believe wellness and wellbeing means.

Wellness is a balanced whole body. Having a holistically balanced state of emotional, social, physical, spiritual, environmental, occupational and intellectual wellbeing. Having a holistically balanced whole body leads to a healthy mind, body and soul.

This theory clearly outlines how important the educator 's role is to children 's wellness and wellbeing. If the educator is unable to positively engage in positive interactions with the child due to their own state of wellness this will directly impact on the child 's learning and development and consequently, affects all of the dimensions of their health and wellbeing. (Child Development, 2009)

Urie Brofenbrenner 's social ecological model also strongly maintains that each individual 's well-being is reliant on the "interactions with the environment" (Liamputtong, Fanany, Verrinder, Henderson-Wilson, & Portsmouth, p. 206). Brofenbreener explored the implications of different settings that children were exposed to and the direct effect it had on children 's wellness and wellbeing.

When looking at Brofenbreener 's model here, he argues the first layer of the ecological model, microsystem, is where education and care settings children are exposed to play a direct role in the children

Children are products of the environments they are exposed too, be a positive influence on the children in your care. The answer to the question I asked at the start should be so clear in your mind now; to best support children 's wellness and wellbeing we need to first and foremost take care of our own wellness and wellbeing. To change your life you need to become proactive, move beyond the negative. Don 't wait for things to change or happen, you control your life. Take control of your life, engage in meaningful reflection and action to make improvements to grow and develop. In doing so, you are embedding this positive message and meaning into the children in your cares environment as well as the staff and families that interact with you. (Finding Your Smile Again,
