First Year Seminar Reflection

“Welcome to Concordia College” is the single most overused phrase you heard the first week of school. Every Class was the same from receiving syllabi and continuous talk about the curriculum, it made college seem just like high school. It sounded like a breeze until you entered Professor Leach’s First Year Seminar Class. I had heard countless things about Professor Leach and they were all extremely positive, so I was looking forward to entering his class this semester. Now entering my second month of college, I have a few opinions and reflections on my class. My overall experience with First Year Seminar has been actually quite positive. No other teacher in my two months of college has been more real with us than Professor Leach, and that is the best thing I could have asked for. Professor Hill has a different style of teaching compared to Professor Leach, which is better for certain students, however, I just connected and learned better from Professor Leach’s teaching methods. Professor Hill taught us about the teachings and history behind our common text of The Communist Manifesto, his style of teaching was less engaging and more of a lecture hall. This style may work for some students like I stated before, however, I connect more with Professor Leach’s teachings like his visual power points and life story connections. My overall experience with the switching of Seminar teachers was personally not a positive one for me, due to the fact that I did not connect with the way Professor Hill taught his lessons; it was just harder for me to grasp the subject he was trying to teach to us. My hope is that the next teacher we have switch with Professor Leach is a more positive and connecting one because I just did not learn particularly well in this first
