Importance Of Vernacular Wood

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of extensive connection of children with natural materials specifically vernacular wood within classrooms in relation to children’s development. In particular this study will address the following question that whether naturalizing children’s classrooms by the use of vernacular material, specifically wood, has any effects on children’s leaning in early learning years.
Nature has a direct and positive influence on human beings. Human beings have unconscious tendency to connect himself in different ways to the nature. As a matter of fact, nature is the best educator the Man has ever had in human’s history. After all, it was in the nature that the man has evolved from by learning how to survive

First, this study develops on multiple researches regarding the direct positive relation of children’s development with natural settings both indoor and outdoor. Second, while there are several researches related to the importance of outdoor natural settings for children’s development at school, relatively very few studies examined the importance of naturalizing classrooms in places where children cannot take advantage of outdoor for different reasons. Finally, considering the vast amounts of hours that children spend indoor in classrooms, it is crucial that designers and educators gain more understanding of the important role of continuously connecting children with natural elements within the classrooms.
This study has two main advantages for the interior design industry as well as educators in learning centers. First, it provides more insight in design, planning and use of natural wood as one of the most abundant natural materials for those who are involved in design and construction of classroom environments. And second, it provides a better understanding for educators on how learning centers can incorporate appropriate natural elements with an emphasis on natural wood to benefit children’s optimal
