First, this study develops on multiple researches regarding the direct positive relation of children’s development with natural settings both indoor and outdoor. Second, while there are several researches related to the importance of outdoor natural settings for children’s development at school, relatively very few studies examined the importance of naturalizing classrooms in places where children cannot take advantage of outdoor for different reasons. Finally, considering the vast amounts of hours that children spend indoor in classrooms, it is crucial that designers and educators gain more understanding of the important role of continuously connecting children with natural elements within the classrooms.
This study has two main advantages for the interior design industry as well as educators in learning centers. First, it provides more insight in design, planning and use of natural wood as one of the most abundant natural materials for those who are involved in design and construction of classroom environments.
