Value Of Vegetarianism

Ahimsa is a spiritual principle emphasized by many saints and masters. It implies love and compassion for all beings and reverence for life itself. The awareness that everyone in creation is inherently divine or in other words the expanded consciousness of all-inclusiveness, can come only through love, compassion and reverence. Acts of violence or himsa, therefore, demonstrate non-alignment with the truth of oneness and absence of a compassionate heart. The immortal Guru Sri Sathya Sai Baba said ‘True love is that which comes from the bottom of the heart and which means no harm to others’. These values are at the very core of providing a basis for choosing a vegetarian and teetotal lifestyle.
The choice of being vegetarian can be evaluated at through many perspectives.

Those who have truly enjoyed the energy of a forest or greenery, are aware that there is much more to trees and plants than meets the eye. For all humans know, plants/trees have a high consciousness. They respond to and are sensitive to the environment in which they grow, responding to vibrations of love, music, chanting, communication etc. Science shows that plants sense and react to injury and create their own defense through secretions. However, plants do not have the nervous system and brain to feel and process ‘PAIN’ as living beings do. Therefore, consuming plants and killing animals for food cannot be equated. Additionally, most of the plant matter that people consume does not destroy the plant. For instance, if the fruit is eaten only the fruit is eaten, the plant is not destroyed. Most vegetables that people eat are harvested only at the end of their life

Everyone has heard about one fad diet or another. The Paleo Diet, you only eat what cavemen ate, the Atkins Diet, you eat only meat and avoid those sinful carbs, and the Juice Diet, you guessed it you only drink juice, to name just a few. The one thing that these diets have in common as that they have a goal which is to lose weight. On the other hand the Vegan Diet is not only a way of eating but a way of life, which is what makes it so damaging and isolates those from their omnivore peers. Living the Vegan lifestyle means that you completely forgo any meat, or food produced by animals which include milk, cheese, and eggs.…

All the sources in this paper point out that the vegan diet has been on the rise for some time, and they all discuss the common key nutrients that vegans tend to miss. Also, they all explain the basics of a vegan diet. A lot of these similarities occur because the media sources referenced research articles within their article trying to show that what they were saying was true and accurate. However, it is interesting how all the media sources describe the health benefits associated with a vegan diet, but the authoritative sources barely mention this besides the article on type-2 diabetes. This difference is due to the nature of research studies, which is that they focus in on one thing only.…

What I think it means to american is that we are diverse and different than any other countries. This idea and its examples are the symbols of freedom that thousands of Americans, not just soldiers but citizens too, have fought for years to preserve and prefect. Unlike other countries, this country is made up of immigrants. Everyone’s ancestors worked hard to get to this country – whether boat or plane. Many of them started with nothing and worked their way up in society because they could.…

I believe that there is nothing wrong with eating meat because it has developed humans for millions of years and is also a natural occurring process. However, I do believe that the method of which we obtain our meat including factory farming is unethical and needs to be changed. The amount of respect that humans have for the animals we eat is miniscule, and it needs to be fixed. Similar to Pollan’s viewpoint on meat-eating and the process of obtaining meat, I believe that animal experimentation is for a good cause such as medical breakthrough and research for developing pathogens.…

In the journal Philosophy in the Contemporary World author William Stephens wrote a fantastic article outlining some arguments in favor of a vegetarian diet. He calls his first argument, “The Argument from Distributive Justice” (Stephens 26). In this section of his defense he explains that eating an omnivore’s diet can actually further harm people living in poverty. This is because it takes away the less expensive grain that people could turn directly into food, and feeds it to animals. Thus, the animal takes the inexpensive resources so it can become fatter and then the slaughtered animal is sold for a price that those in poorer communities cannot afford.…
