My Teaching Goals

Improved Essays
I believe first-rate teachers must have a passion for learning and possess qualities in creativity and leadership, with a never-give-up attitude, to be truly successful in the field of education. Educators need to be lifelong learners in order to instill the love of learning in their students too. Effective teachers are versatile professionals, who appreciate challenge, and are resourceful. I believe that my role as a teacher is to help students explore their place in the world, embrace their own diversity as well as that of their peers, and promote a love for learning (redundant). Below, using examples from my own teaching I explain in greater detail how I try to achieve these teaching goals.

In summer of 2016, I combined my love of travel and challenges, and interest in advocacy, and led a cross-country service trip to benefit affordable housing, cycling 4100 miles from New Haven, CT to Half Moon Bay, CA. Spending every waking moment with the same 30 people for 11 weeks was a challenge in and of itself. Together, we saw places of wealth, places drowning in troubles, we built homes with affordable housing organizations like Habitat for Humanity, and we climbed mountains together, every kind of mountain. My sense of adventure expanded, with the excitement of not knowing, in advance, the sights, people or places of the day and the power to keep pedaling regardless of the obstacle. Over the course of this summer, I truly learned how to be grateful for all of the small things that others have done for me and in return, the significance of the small difference that I can make, and the domino effect of leading by example. Leading by example translates to the classroom too, as teachers should model and practice lifelong learning habits to promote student learning, and motivate …show more content…
Teaching content is only one responsibility of many that a teacher has to their students. While it is likely students may forget a bulk of the information learned in the K-12 education, the way students learn how to reason and think critically will guide them through life. I believe in the importance of character education, and teaching the values of empathy, honesty, responsibility and fairness. The foundation for these skills must be established in K-12 education. Teaching social skills as well as content fosters the development of ethical and responsible

Two of the Effective Educator Goals that I have chosen to provide rationale on are, Manages & Motivates and Reflects on Practice. I feel very strongly that most students, when given a positive, encouraging, and nurturing learning environment, can motivate themselves to be socially interactive and engaged in their own education. When students see your positive energy, feel your desire to learn, and know they are an asset to your classroom; most often will put forth the effort to be an active participant. I have had differentiated environments to meet the needs of certain individuals to promote a supportive and meaningful environment that was conducive to learning.…

In “What’s Wrong with Character Education?”, Michael Davis presents three main arguments against character education. Character education can be sorted into three different types simple moral education, just-community education, and simple character education. Davis argues that simple moral education lacks in evidence to support its claims (empirical), conflict on what good character is and how to teach it (conceptual), and its failure to do things the right way for the right purpose (moral). In this paper I will be agreeing with the empirical criticism of simple character education. However, I will also be providing a possible objection to the empirical criticism.…

In order to be an outstanding educator, I believe one needs to be attentive, respectful, flexible, and have a willingness to always be a student themselves. An outstanding educator must always be attentive to what’s going on in his or her classroom, front to back and side to side. A healthy classroom environment should be safe, resourceful, and productive.…

The last goal that our elementary and secondary schools could equally and especially focus more on is “Social ethics, both behavioral and abstract, to facilitate compatibly with others in this society.” Students of all ages should be taught these skills because they are imperative to excel in almost any aspect of life. Students are rarely taught in school how to properly shake someone’s hand, how to prepare for a job interview, or how work harmoniously with others. Our education system should require a course dedicated to teaching “social ethics” and “soft…

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

My educational and career goals from my completion of undergraduate school to completion of graduate school is standard of a span of seven years. After meeting at the McNair Open House, I saw that it is realistic to graduate early and so I have become optimistic about my goals. An educational goal would be to graduate early from graduate school no matter if it’s just one semester instead of two years. Another educational goal would be to attend the University of Washington’s School of Dentistry to obtain my DDS/PhD. The University of Washington’s DDS/PhD program is really amazing because it combines training for students committed to an academic or research career in dentistry and dental research by merging the DDS curriculum with a PhD in…

When we enter into the classroom every day and prepare our lesson plans, we are doing more than just repeating material from a book. We are sharing our personal knowledge with those who will one day control the world. We put a little piece of ourselves in every student we encounter. Three Educational Goals

In school, I believe that there are three essential goals that teachers and professors should strive for in their classroom. These three include: the development of rational, well-rounded individuals, the teaching of cognitive and critical thinking skills, and finally the global improvement of the quality of life. There are many other goals that should be reached, but I consider these are the three major ones. It’s hard to come by a rational human being who actually thinks about what he or she is about to say instead of blurting nonsense out of their mouths and potentially hurting someone in the process without meaning too. To teach them at an early age to be rational thinkers is a necessity in life.…

Education should aim to emphasis the freedom of the learner to explore different ways of developing their uniqueness and lead them to a greater understanding of themselves. In my personal philosophy of education, I believe that an individual should be learning in all aspects of life and therefore education should aim to provide direction for them to think critical and have self-knowledge. I believe that if individuals are equipped with the type of knowledge which allows them to think about complex ideas by reaching their own conclusions then the information they receive daily can be something that challenges their thinking and they will have a better understanding of their beliefs. They can become confident in fulfilling their innate sense…

My teaching philosophy is to maintain a balance between the duties of a teacher, the responsibilities as an advisor, and the role as a mentor. Teaching is a challenging, dynamic, creative, customized and evolving craft. The challenge is not in the physical act of doing the job as anyone can stand and narrate few words in front of an audience, but the challenge is to do it in an effective and efficient manner. I believe the essence of teaching is to facilitate the learning process and to get the students to engage in the learning process. As a perfectionist, it is a challenge to make sure that students are on the right track and make them take responsibility towards making plans and doing the work needed for the my class, other classes, and…
