In a world of imperfect people, it is inevitable that there will be inequality between individuals. These inequalities manifest themselves in many ways, one of which ways is underdevelopment. Countries that are underdeveloped are be defined as: “a nation or sovereign state with a less developed industrial base and a low Human Development Index relative to other countries” (Wikipedia). These countries suffer because of this in all areas from education to technology and monetary concerns. It is a fact that there are countries who are classified as developing. In underdeveloped countries, it is usually a privilege as the poor cannot afford to pay for education. Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (1). When an individual is well educated, they are being provided with an opportunity to rise above from the destitute lifestyle and become a better person. When a person is well educated, they are able to take better care of themselves and be less of a burden on society as a whole. Many of the issues that plague the poor of underdeveloped countries could be eradicated if the people in such situations were only able to gain an education. Those stricken with the affliction of poverty usually are often more susceptible to many illnesses due to the fact that they do not know. They do not know basic health and hygiene rules that those educated have been taught from a young age. Something as simple as washing ones’ hands before eating or using the bathroom are not practiced because it is not taught. Out of the top ten most populated countries, seven are third world, or underdeveloped, countries. As all the problems in underdeveloped countries are part of the vicious cycle, overpopulation is one of them caused by all of the other factors. Overpopulation is caused by the problems in a country and also contributes to the problems in the future. One of the features in the vicious cycle of poverty is low productivity. It can be concluded that due to the fact the people who are part of the vicious cycle have lots of time to procreate. Due to their lack of education, they seem to appear to not know that more children will make their lives more difficult and also they are making their children’s lives more difficult as they grow up. The parents are at a disadvantage as many poor people are not in the position to receive health care and health information especially about contraceptives that could help them with regulating their children. Unfortunately, many countries were doctrinated by the Catholic church which does not believe in contraceptives. Also, many of these countries are third world countries which do not have the resources to accommodate the high population growth.
