These issues need to be recognized within the department and raised to help foster relationships between the students and their elders. One way of solving this issue is to implement a mentor program.
PROPOSED PRODUCT
Throughout the evolution of this study, I will create a convincing argument toward the new mentor program and enlighten the professors about how important it would be to have it.
In my efforts to convince, I intend to demonstrate the potential that this type of program would have on incoming design students, thus allowing them to feel stress-free, comfortable, and assisted as they continue on in the design department at Winthrop University. Furthermore, I would like to express to the professors that this kind of project is necessary and beneficial. I will attempt to show them as well that the challenges presented are actual issues that need to be addressed. I am a clear example of what a lack of guidance from older students and professors can cause. This program caused me to change my mind about my life goals and change my major to Digital Information Design. Therefore, my personal experience plays a big factor in my motivation to get this issue solved.
Second, I am very interested to see how my opinions will be used in consideration when dealing with this problem. It seems that people often complain about the lack of support and guidance, but nothing ever changes. This lack of attention has always baffled me and I am curious to see how my opinions will change that. However, before I bring this issue to the forefront, I need to assemble my tools and the processes I will use to make sure that I can benefit new and future design students.
