The purpose of the study will introduce changes in social behavior due to travel experiences. The outcome of my research will propose the idea that travel does temporarily change social behaviors and will bring more focus on the idea of travel and its effect on social behaviors. The work will lead to new studies that will uncover the reason for the temporary result of travel on social behaviors and how to make the results last longer. The findings from my study will contribute understanding as to why changes in social behaviors occur with a temporary change in environment. The study will provide insight as to why the social changes made on vacation revert back once the person returns to their everyday environment. My predictions about the results of the study are that the participants will have more social presence and be more willing to partake in social behaviors as a result of the travel. The independent variable in the study was the change in environment (travel experience) and the dependent variable was the social behavior produced. Participants were asked to fill out consent forms upon arrival and were informed that choosing to cease participation in the study would result in loss of the course credit regardless of the time at which participation was ceased. After following experimental protocol, participants were asked to complete Spitzberg’s (1987) Conversational Skill Rating Scale questionnaire to assess their day to day social behaviors and communication skills. After the completion of the assessment, Participants were asked to return in a week’s time from the completion of the assessment with their bags packed for a trip to Sydney, Australia.
