College applications were fast approaching and I was eager to get into the same University as my friends. We had it all planned, we would dorm together, take classes together, and experience the college life together. As the deadline for choosing my fate for the next four years was approaching, I had to make, what I thought, was the toughest choice at that time choosing the same university as my friends, or going to the university I wanted to go to. I choose California State University of Northridge, a university where I would have to start all over again because I knew no one. I was disappointed to know I wouldn’t be experiencing the college life with my friends. I left high school behind, put on a happy face but dreaded starting my first year not knowing anyone.

Transitioning from high school to college was tough, being alone was even tougher. Leaving my comfort zone and meeting new people, I managed to move past the transitioning state and build a future for myself. It wasn’t until my second year, that I started enjoying my major classes and became involved in extracurricular activities. I’ve realized the only way to become successful and accomplish the ambitious goals I had in mind, was to move past my comfort zone. I joined Muslim Student Association, an organization on campus that brought Muslims of different races, years, and majors together to bridge the gap between other religious organizations, in which I met one of my closest friends and a year afterward, I became the president of the organization. I’ve always strived for more and wanted to become more involved with campus life. During my presidency, there were senate elections on campus. I really wanted to join and it was always my goal to become involved in senate elections. I talked to a lot of people about it, and some said it would be
