How Schools and Teachers Can Support Children during Transition
• Plan flexible, effective and meaningful transition programs that are contextually relevant, meaningful and appropriate for young children’s adjustment to schools.
• Plan activities in such a way that welcome children warmly. Activities like assembly, lunch and play-time should be planned in such a way that children feel comfortable and protected, and can deal confidently with new challenges.
• Involve and engage parents in day to day practices of school, especially during the first few months of transition. This will help children feel comfortable and protected and increase their participation in classroom activities.
• Teachers should try to understand and respond to children’s needs and concerns as this will help children gain confidence during the transition
