As a person, my qualities involve empathy, sympathy, compassion, and caring for those in hardship. Through my upbringing, I took an interest aiding to animals, such for dogs, cats, and fish, who were neglected. At age ten-years-old, I rescued an orange cat by the name of Ginger. Ginger became the best furry friend, as a result animal rescue became my life calling. Since, I was/am caring and loving, I explored professions relating to aiding others. According to Holland, choosing a career that fits one’s personality is a vital step toward career well-being and success. A counselor's personality type(s) consist of social (major personality component), artistic, and Conventional characteristics. According to the model, social is an individual who loves to lend a hand out to others, friendly, problem solver, and effective communication quality. Another aspect of working as a counselor, you must have awareness of other cultures. According to the assessment, I have the attributes of a social, conventional, and artistic personality. The evidence of this, my approach to problem solving is when faced with an issue, I do not make a rash decision, rather weigh the pros and cons of the situation. For example, I am the type of person who sees the "what if's" in a situation. I am not searching for a problem to arise, but rather be well prepared. Therefore, when I relocated from Israel to the United States, I considered different scenarios that could affect my residency in the country, those scenarios included, living with my grandparents. As stated above, my personal goals were to pursue a career helping people or animals. Moreover, my values to my career choice were imprinted at a young age, through observation of my parents (AATB,2017). Both of my parents are in a field that aids to others, my father is a social worker and as a child I used to visit him at work. I was exposed to different individuals with schizophrenia. At first, I was frightened of them, but as my father explained the illness, I began to have strong empathetic feelings towards them. The social aspect of the theory can conclude that my environment has enabled me to develop strong empathetic feelings for others, because I was exposed to mental illness at a young age. My personal goals as a child, which continued into adulthood were to help others. Those goals drive my behavior to be patient with individuals who are different from me. For example, many people do not take the time to see situations through the eyes of another. People see the world differently and operate differently. As a counselor in training, I practice empathy through taking the time to put myself in their situation. My grandmother has a fear of doctors and refuses to visit one when needed.
