All tourists coming from Tibet to Nepal should enter through Kodari that is 115 km east of Kathmandu. By overland tourist entering into Nepal with their vehicles must possess and international carnet or complete customs formalities.
Customs formalities
All baggage must be cleared through the customs on arrival at the entrance. Personal effects have permitted free entry. A tourist can bring in dutiable goods, like tobacco, and liquors, within the prescribed quantity only. Carrying narcotics, weapons system, and ammunition has strictly forbidden. Foreign currencies must be exchanged only at banks or authorized Money Changers. Indian 1000, 2000 notes are accepted only 25000 rupees. One hundred Indian rupees will be 160 in Nepali rupees. National and International banks with ATM facility, IME, and Western Union Money transfer service are available in major cities. There are numerous banks, including Standard Chartered, Nabil, Himalaya, Bank of Kathmandu, Prime Commercial, Prabhu, Sanima, Global, Everest, Nepal Investment, SBI and Tourism Development bank.
Getting around in Kathmandu and other cities
Black plate’s metered taxi and city bus are available in major city centers, including Kathmandu and Pokhara. Local and tourist bus parks in Kathmandu connect major cities in Nepal. Rickshaw, motorbike, and bicycle can rent in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. Jeep, car, van, coaster, and big bus can hire with a vehicle and travel company.
Domestic airlines
There are at least 35 airstrips, 19 domestic airlines, including Nepal airline for a regular and charter flight. Helicopter for rescue and tour are available.
