What I Learned In High School

The first day of the fall semester was like my first day of high school, I was so emotional because I couldn’t believe I was in college. I was so nervous and I had all these thoughts in my head. Will I ever make any friends? Will people even like me? Will I pass any of my classes? These are the same questions I had when I walked into high school for the first time. But I knew I had to think positive to succeed in school. This is just the beginning of my future. A topic that was influential to me was time management. When I first started this semester my decisions on how I used my time caused some negativity things to happen personal related and school related. Whenever I would do my homework It would be very easy for me to get distracted quickly. I spent more time on social media, my phone, or hanging out with friends than doing my homework when it was due. Because I didn’t manage my time right I always did my homework at the very last minute.
Ever since my cornerstone class learned about time management, and I did a little more research on this topic, I learned some great tips to manage my time. For an example: because I have trouble with being distracted a tip I learned in class from a fellow student was to shut my electronics off or place them

Before learning the great tips I learned in class I was horrible with saving and spending my money on things I needed. I also have a problem with spending money on food. I would defiantly say I spend at least a thousand dollars on food a year, maybe even more. For now on I’m going to start splitting my money into sections. For an example, I know I have an electricity bill, a phone bill, rent, car note and insurance. My plan is to separate the money I get into different bank accounts so I can pay bills on time and use the other account for other things. I get paid weekly so it’s time for me to split my checks into sections so I can save

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

For an inspired number of today’s youth, transitioning from high school into some institution of higher learning, such as a college or university, falls among the more profound turning points in their lives; more likely than not, to an extent that has been otherwise unprecedented before now. Regardless of individual circumstances, the fact still stands that college can be a major status quo change for many, if not all incoming students, and with drastically new experiences like these comes a variety of differing emotions felt across the spectrum. This is usually the first instance in which students must have to take charge of themselves in a more direct, forward sense; not only when dealing with the heightening of academic expectations, but…

Wise Money Choices + College Costs = Minimal Stress I cannot believe I have made it this far this quickly. It feels like just yesterday when I was accepting my diploma from Mr. Salvatore, my middle school principal and crying while hugging friends who I knew would be attending a different high school than I. Then, on that hot September day, walking through what I thought must have been the biggest school in the state of New Jersey, I got lost, made new friends, and college was but a dwarfed blip on my radar, far, far away from the center of my mind. Subsequently, in tenth grade, Union High School became smaller and my excitement for graduation was planted by the upperclassmen’s conversations about the upcoming prom and graduation.…

These last four years have been a whirlwind for me. Between school, gymnastics, extra curricular activities, work, cheer, and many more activities I have to say I have been very busy throughout my high school years. There has been ups and downs, yet through all of them I have learned valuable lessons that I will take with me as I go off to college. I tried to challenge myself each year in a different way, being able to look back and reflect on them is a great way to see how far I’ve come since that first day as a freshman on crutches nervous as all get-out to attend Auburn Riverside High School. Over the past month and a half, I have adapted to my new environment that is Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), and feel much more sure of myself as I continue through this semester. I have learned about what skills and mindsets can lead to a successful college experience, such as hope, grit, and resilience. I have also been able to reflect on myself as a person, and identify strengths, values, and abilities I possess that I can use to my advantage. Finally, I have learned about different resources I have surrounding me, and different aspects of PLU that…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
