How Did I Set My Goals?

Improved Essays
Since In the beginning of this semester I set my goals and worked as hard as I could to achieve them. As I wrote in the "learner profile" in the first week of the semester that my aim is to reach an advanced level of being able to write a good scientific papers, criticize them, in addition to being a good presenter. Thanks to the activities the we have been through, from the academic content units to the seminars and the guided independent study I estimate that I reached a reasonable level of what I was planned to reach. In the following paragraphs, each component of the course would be discussed to show what each one of them add to me and where the deficiencies were.
In the academic content units, which refer mainly to the book "Thinking

We started our term searching about the our future academic and professional interests. I wrote about the academic department that I was going to apply for, and I confess that I was not pleased with the task at that time and I felt like if it was kind of wasting of time. Nevertheless, it was a good chance to practice writing about an academic department, which was something that I have never done before. In the second seminar, our task was to present an academic concept. Presentation was one of the main skills that I mentioned in my goals in the beginning of the semester, and from looking at the two presentations that I did I found that have some improvement especially in term of the pauses and fillers. Also I felt that I was more confident in the last presentation than the first one, which resulted in less nervousness and better fluency however, fluency is still weakness in my speeches. In the third seminar, we have been taught a new skill, which is writing bibliography. This skill has exposed us to differentiate between the various types of articles and read them critically. Such an important skill has to be understood from any student who is looking for higher education. Since I am from those kind of students, I think that it was one of the best activities that we have …show more content…
I am not really sure whether I am completely ready or not, however I think as long as listen effectively and speak meaningfully, in addition to be able to read academic texts and analyze and draw a conclusion then write what I conclude then I am ready. I believe that I am now have a good mastering in those skills especially in my field. Also form the English standardized tests, I guess most of the universities decided the minimum requirement depending on studies and long experience of teaching non natives. That make me optimist even if I feel some weakness in some areas. I still have some difficulty with speaking, I feel like that I need to prepare my response before saying it, otherwise my answer would have some grammatical mistakes. In listening, I feel that I am now able to engage myself to academic meetings with a high comprehension. However, I still have a challenge of taking notes and arranging them. Over all, my speaking and listening now got improved, but they need to be practiced to preserve the level that I reached and to continue improving those two skills. In other hand, reading and writing also have been improved but the challenge that I still have is the time, and this more obvious in writing. Despite of that, my typing speed in computer has a significant increase. When I look at my research

In comparing Pappas and Tolisano’s taxonomies, Tolisano’s reflection of taxonomies has more connection to me in terms of my learning process and self-development in this class. As we can see, the bottom of the pyramid (the foundation), the very base consists of a big block structure and it gets little as it reaches the top. Similarly, my learning process in this class started to have a big, scattered, overwhelming pieces of ideas, then as the class progress, those ideas became smaller yet unified. When this class started, I am at the “what did I do” scale. It is the bottom but the very foundation of all the scales.…

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

It has come to my knowledge that there is a limited amount of spots in the ENG 102 class for next semester. I am one of the best candidates to continue into ENG 102 and thrive in Ms. Laduca’s learning environment. Although I do not fear that I have not already earned my spot, I will proceed to justify my case. I have been an adroit student of Ms. LaDuca’s for the last year and a half; she knows exactly what kind of student I am. Since seventh grade, I have been an ebullient honors student in the top ten percent of the 2016 cohort and have not received any grades lower than an A. I always exceed expectations, put in 110% of my effort, and achieve and maintain excellent grades at the same time.…

PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…

English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…

I am very thankful for taking this course as I feel I have vastly improved in multiple areas of my communication. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. That is what intrigued me to take this course before the semester started. For myself great strides were made in my ability to convince readers through the toulmin model, learned in this course.…

The Saint Mary’s seminar classes are so unlike traditional teacher-centered learning. The Western Tradition II focuses on three learning goals; shared inquiry, critical thinking, and written and oral communication. These three learning goals really help students explore the Western Tradition by examine the themes written by the authors we discussed. De Las Casas, Rene Descartes, and Voltaire really influenced the way I thought about how our culture started and the major flaws we stay face today within our society. If everyone read and discussed the themes that these authors purposefully wrote in their text maybe people would have realized the underlying issues that have been around for forever have solutions.…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…
