The idea of a String Methods class in undergraduate study is to explore the different approaches that happen around the world. There will be some methods more renowned than others, and of course, those will prevail and outshine the rest. However, this class will go into specific details of the classical instruments like Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass and how they are used throughout these String Methods. Consequently, these string instruments play a huge role in the music world around us; each come with a variety of different techniques and difficult necessities to be learned. Since the Suzuki Method was established first, it could have been possible that Egon Sassmannshaus took these similar characteristics and just composed them in a different style, but that is why these books are so great. Dr. Shinichi Suzuki was a great music educator and created a technical method book called the Suzuki Method. This method is available for different string instruments and has several volumes of unique editions. The Suzuki Method has become such a pedagogy of musical teaching that it is even seen as the normal technique that has been revolving around the world today. Inside the method book, the first passage of text the reader is greeted with is the Foreword, in which Dr. Suzuki states, “The Destiny of a Child is in His Parents’ Hands” (p.4). Such words have always influenced me as a musician and could never be more precise; it is true what Dr. Suzuki says, without the influence of the parents in the student’s musical studies, the student cannot excel properly. Once again, to institutionalize this method efficiently into the student, the instructor and the parents must work together in developing the child. Since the book highly recommends teaching the musician at an early age the parents must nurture the skills and honed talents that come alongside prestigious musicians. The Suzuki Method is used as the foundation of the method teaching pedagogy, so use this method as the assigned exercises for at home practices. This method revolves around the mother-tongue idea, in how the child learns everything from watching what the mother does. So, in order to continue a well-educated music career, the parents are strongly recommended to be involved because then the student can have the support and enthusiasm of the parent. The exercises within the Suzuki Method are more detailed oriented and focus more on the technical approach to the string instrument, whereas the Sassmannshaus Tradition focuses more on creating a child-friendly book for the parents and the child to explore together. The Suzuki Method might be the greatest method book out there today, but it does cause the learner to become afraid of the instrument. With its strict learning and strong procedure, the learning process might get disrupted for the learner because the young child might feel pressured and feel overwhelmed. But with the aid of the Sassmanshaus Tradition in the classroom setting, it creates a friendlier environment for the child causing them to concentrate better for short periods of time instead of a long stretch.
