I chose the Sociology degree programme because it is a subject I have found to completely and utterly grab my attention as well as interest me. Sociology naturally draws me to learning more and sharing my knowledge with others. Studying Sociology will give me a number of transferable skills I plan to gain, examples being environmental awareness, communication, and critical evaluation which will help me later in my career. Recognizing how environmental awareness influences other people either at work or home can help sociologists understand them. Communication is essential to any character, specifically in my career where I must interact with others on a daily basis. With time management improved I can gather research prior to deadlines for a dissertation and with communications improvements I can write or speak at different levels to convey complex information to others. The degree will develop a form of maturity as I will work with my peers as researchers in this field. The Sociology degree from Kent will also help me develop character and to be a leader. I will gain the initiative and passion to further research in the Sociology field. With the degree from Kent, I will continue the subject to the PhD level and further myself in a variety of fields such as being a sociologist or teaching. As a sociologist I will study both western and Britain society on various levels, an example being to explore race, ethnicity and sex as well as the intersections between the three. Going into the teaching profession would be a brilliant continuation of the sociology field. Having an interest in teaching since primary school, it would be a great decision to teach after my degree from Kent. It would be exhilarating to teach future sociologists in the field as well as learn from the students since teaching is a learning experience for both professors and students. Obtaining a postgraduate degree at the University of Kent in Sociology will absolutely advance my future career, setting me apart from my colleagues in this
