Importance Of The Second Amendment In The United States

The second amendment has become a controversial topic in recent politics. Written into the constitution in 1776 by our founding fathers it states “a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed upon.” Politicians argue over the meaning of this amendment, but the fathers wrote it clearly, and does not leave room for interpretation. The creators of the second amendment believed that citizens owning guns was, and still is the basis of Freedom in America. The second amendment represents self-preservation and freedom to the American people, freedom from oppression and enslavement, the liberty of man to protect his rights, and to uphold the responsibility the government has in protecting its people.

God gave every human rights, but it is the government’s job to protect those rights. The government was put in place to provide equal protection to American’s, not equal possessions. The constitution states a well-regulated militia is essential to a free state. American’s will fight off foreign invaders together, with a well-trained militia. The militia will not threaten the people of America, citizens are armed as well as to protect their land and balance the power. The second amendment does not lead to senseless fighting, it leads our peace “To be prepared for war is the most effectual means of preserving peace.” George Washington stated. The second amendment allows America to have a standing militia, this militia protects American freedom from those who wish to take it. If history has taught us anything, it is that “Freedom is not free”. Millions have given their lives in order to protect American freedom because they realize it is better to die protecting freedom than to live under
