Guns: Rights or Luxuries There is a continuous debate on gun use. I constantly hear “Guns are violent and they kill people.” Guns do not kill people. People kill people. Suit after suit comes debating the availability and process of getting guns. How you use a weapon is your choice, not the governments. They can regulate certain aspects of it, but if someone wants to use it for the wrong reason, they will find a way. However, guns are lawful and a right of American citizens, within reason, because there are instances when it is not smart, or safe, for certain people to own guns. Constitutionally United States citizens have the right to bear arms, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (Madison "Amendment 2"). There are clearly two parts to this amendment: A right to a Militia for safety and the right for citizens to own and use weapons. While bearing arms is not necessarily a firearm, within context of the framers and founders world, to “bear arms” would be to own and use firearms. A good guideline that for the most part is followed, but could be enforced more is, "Clarify that it doesn’t matter where you conduct your business—from a store, at gun shows, or over the Internet: If you’re in the business of selling firearms, you must get a license and conduct background checks" (FACT SHEET: New Executive Actions to Reduce Gun Violence and Make Our Communities Safer sec. "New Actions by the Federal Government"). By preventing at risk, mentally ill, and criminals from obtaining guns, we would have less problems. While criminals could go elsewhere to buy guns, having certain regulations in place and knowing where the traffic of guns are flowing could help crack down on illegal
