It was my exposure to conducting rigorous research relevant to issues with in afflicted communities that propelled me to not only understand the wide array of pervasive issues affecting the black community from a personal or theoretical level but also as a practitioner of the work. I believe that some of the best research in the field of social work is not only rooted in analytical studies but is also tested in the field. This is why I believe social work is the best path for me, I don’t simply want to learn about social injustices facing society, but I also want to work in the field to end them. This was one of my goals as an educator, and my learning curve in that field was staggering. After many attempts, failures, and successes I came to the conclusion that in order for children who come from disadvantaged circumstances to be able to successfully compete in our market economy they must have the proper higher educational options, the solid foundation of academics established in their k – 12 program, and the proper supports at each of those respective stages. However, I’ve come to the conclusion that much of these are supplemental components that necessitate having a strong family unit and if not a strong family unity then a self-actualized
