Tell me about the most difficult situation you have experienced with a senior manager or executive. Why was it difficult? What did you do? What was the outcome?
Response: I will never forget a certain week at a dealership. I was the Lead and had 2 “Wings” under me, and we were installing/implementing a big dealership. We had no idea the ticking time bomb into which we were walking. The summary of all the issues came down to a very key component: unbeknownst to anyone, the dealer principal was a friend of the sales rep, and he had never been given a true demo. Consequently, he had no idea if his current setup was even compatible with ours or was made aware of the capabilities of our system. When we showed up to the install and to train everyone, they knew about who we were and it was a “cool” tool but that was it. The wheels fell off fairly early on as numerous components were not compatible with their current systems but they were never told this. As I was the Lead, all responsibility fell on me to try and right this sinking ship. To add fuel to the fire, the owner of the entire group had passed away over the weekend and emotions were very high. This greatly changed my game plan. Now I had to go into research, interview, and get to know you mode and scrap my regular monthly agenda. As first impressions are key, I knew I had to nail it. I obtained all the necessary information on the manager. We spoke and exchange contact information. I introduced myself and made sure it was a good time to speak and was up to speed with everything (training, passwords/logins, reports, etc).
