I ran over to where my aunt was setting down the netted bag of sand toys and snatched up a meek, plastic shovel, racing back to my spot before someone else could take it. Chuckling to myself while imagining my poor twin falling tragically into a large mass of emptiness, I began to dig diligently. I had created a gap roughly two feet in width, about three feet deep. Not too bad if I do say so myself.
I stole a towel from my family’s stack of beach towels and lay it down to cover the gap in the sand I had created. It fit perfectly, and my work was complete. Now all I had to do was wait for the following day.
