Texting to Save Your Life Many times, as humans, we emphasize on all the good in our lives, and begin to completely ignore the bad things. Far too often, people fail to be prepared for what’s coming next in life. Ultimately being blindsided by tragic events, such as suicide, that can completely ruin lives. But thanks to an article written by David Bornstein entitled “For Teens in Crisis, the Next Text Could Be a Lifesaver” potentially suicidal teens now know of an amazing new way for to get through those tough times, when there seems to be no one around. “It’s not about giving advice. You have to be completely nonjudgmental. It’s essential to establishing trust.” (Bornstein 3) These are the words of Kaley Leshem, who trains counselors. She states the fact that a nonjudgmental environment is essential to getting the teen to trust the counselor. Once trust is established between counselor and teen then the conversation can flow more smoothly. Making the teen’s comfortable will most likely increase the chances of having them speak openly, therefore allowing the teen to get the help they need. Teens that find themselves with no where to turn usually just need someone to talk to, and luckily for them the counselors at The Crisis Text Line are always there to help. The Crisis Text Line offers a modern way to communicate with teens through text. The text line also offers experienced counselors and a nonjudgmental environment.
