1. The first week was exciting, eye opening, and a little overwhelming. However, I think I will really like helping out and teaching in this classroom. When the kindergarteners first walked in the door, one of the little girls ran over and gave us all a huge hug. I do not know what could be a better start to my practicum. I am going to learn a lot over this semester, especially how to teach in a diverse setting. My classroom has nine English Language Learners, and at least five different ethnicities. Having so many students who are learning English is a little overwhelming right now, but I know that this will make me a better teacher, and give me lots of valuable experience. On the first day, we also had a student who had to be forcefully removed from the classroom. The teacher told the students that it was time to put away their mats after rest time. However, one of the students was not putting his mat away. The teacher then went over to the child and gave him a choice. She said, “You can either put your mat away, and stay in our classroom and have fun, or you can continue to not follow the rules and we will have to call your other teacher.” When he was not doing what she said then she said “I will give you to the count of D to put your mat away.” “A, B, C, D” The little boy did not put his mat away and got more frustrated so he started to kick the table and that is when the teacher quietly got on the phone, made a call, and got the little boy removed from the classroom for about an hour. When he came back he was much better. The kindergarteners are starting to gain an idea of all of the classroom rules. You can tell because whenever anyone breaks one of the rules there is always a little kid making sure that you notice it. This is good however, because it means that the students understand the classroom rules, and are trying to follow

Observations: Students were allowed to wear a hat to class if they had paid a dollar. Usually this is not allowed in class. They seemed pretty excited over allowed to wear a hat in the classroom. When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it.…

Many, like Aunt Sandy, have told me that 's what I was born to do!…

In addition, I plan to always give my students a “heads up” about what is going on. If the schedules, routines, and transitions are planned beforehand and students know what to expect, I will be setting myself up for a classroom with much greater success. Lastly, I was again reminded of the importance of relationships. In my own classroom someday, I will strive to develop connections with each and every one of my students. If this is done, managing my classroom will come much more easily.…
