Why I want to teach Early Elementary and Special Education

One day, I will be a first grade teacher and also work with special education students on a daily basis. Many may ask me why I want to pursue this career given all the apparent downfalls that may arise. The answer to this is not as straight-forward as many would expect. It cannot be answered with one simple statement, there are countless reasons to become an educator that all change depending on who you may ask. For me, becoming an educator of the children of the younger generations is nothing short of rewarding. Having a degree in education is probably one of the most versatile jobs you can have, there will always be a need for teachers. Teaching elementary education is perfect, you get to have fun and be creative on a daily basis. As a family-orientated person, working in a school means you get weekends, holidays, and even snow days off. What can get better than that? I had a particularly difficult time going through elementary school in my past. My father was a marine, so every three years or so I was moving to a completely different state, or even country sometimes. I was in a constant state of being the new kid. I ended up getting bullied quite a bit due to the fact that I was shy, I was the new kid, and most of all because I enjoyed reading and learning in general. If I could change one thing about my upbringing, it would be that I had that role model I so desperately needed: To be someone I could trust and feel comfortable around. I needed someone to show me how to have self-confidence and be comfortable with who I am as a person. I did not have this in my life until my freshman year of high school. I will become an elementary school teacher to try to be that person for others. To be a role model and hopefully an inspiration to those who need it the
