Look at your location as well and determine how equipped you are to survive in your present location if a crisis should arise. Do you know how to use nothing but the things nature presents or is this something you need to look at. You should also consider your health and anything else that could be a problem in moments of crisis or disaster.

You should list the opportunities in your environment. Imagine the resources that are currently available and how they can be of use in a crisis situation. Are there training opportunities in your area that can teach you any of the skills you need to survive? The internet is a great place to find information and to band with groups of people who are into survivalism.

There is no point in being prepared when you don't know what threats you are preparing for. Are you preparing for a war or the end of the world. Are you preparing for natural disaster or economic threats or the invasion of planet earth by some nefarious race of aliens? If you know what you will be facing (hypothetically) you need to know what equipment you should get and what training will be most beneficial.
