College Admissions Essay: How Adversity Has Changed My Life

Improved Essays
Life is full of countless ups and downs. Things haven’t always gone the way I’ve desired and many times I’ve fallen in defeat to adversity. Sometimes I’m overcome with doubt and disbelief in myself and my future. That’s all just part of growing up, though, and maturing as a human being. Growing up in the small town of Dubuque, I’ve found that family and friends are what make life worth living. They’re the people that have picked me up when I’m down and pushed me forward. Without these people, I would have never come to realize the many important aspects of life and development. One thing I’ve heard from the beginning of my life was to follow my dreams and let my imagination blossom like a flower. To be most successful in finding and reaching …show more content…
It has forced me to wonder what lies ahead for me and what I will dedicate my life to. It’s also made me question what my children will be like or if I will ever have children. Another thought that constantly runs through my mind is what else lies in the universe. I’m inspired to learn more about this thing we call the world and how I’ve earned this life. The pieces that I’ve read and wrote have also captured my interest in many topics. One thing I’m incredibly interested in is sports. I love to see greatness in the field of athletics and watch people perform amazing skills. As I’ve gotten older I’ve also grown an increasing interest in politics. For example, I love to keep up with the current political race and what’s going on in the world. Another thing that is constantly on my mind is the drive to be success and do well. This has made me look into powerful people of the past and how they did so well. I learn from and with the help of others. In the future, I hope to be able to learn more about other parts of the worlds and different cultures with friends. This has made me question the idea of studying abroad and living in another nation for some time. At my age, I’m constantly finding new things I enjoy and lose interest in others. I hope to be able to find true peace in my thoughts eventually and be content with my …show more content…
This tag line said “start here, go anywhere!” This is going to be an attitude I set out for at the beginning of this next part of my life. If I start to read more books and take more time writing then I can reach any goal I’ve thought up. My reading so far has created thoughts that inspire me to know more and wonder about the future. By doing more reading and practicing my craft in writing, I won’t have to wonder where my life is going. I will have control of it and have thoughts deeper than I could even imagine. By starting to read and write more in my life I will have countless opportunities starting in two years. Now is the time that I can prepare myself for the challenges ahead of me and there is no way better than

How a Journey Molds a Person When one is on a journey, it tends to be more important than the destination, especially when it can change a person’s life for the better. Asha Tyson, an author who wrote on how to retire at age 26, once wrote “Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. All the work spent rebuilding our messy lives now just a pile of ash. It was a difficult time for my dad and I. There’s times when it seems that life is out to get you, and maybe it is. All I know is that when life took a gun and pointed it toward me, or kicked me out onto the street, or made my living situation a spiraling mess, or even burned down our hard work and all our possessions, that I didn’t allow it to stop me.…

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” —Aesop In a world full of hate and war, most people forget that a small act of random kindness can change even the saddest of hearts. Kindness has become a foreign language, one I make an effort to practice everyday. I work in a coffee shop, which requires a tremendous about of patience, as well as hospitality and customer service. Everyday, I make it apparent to myself that you never know what is going through an individual's mind, or the day they have had.…

The medal hid under a stack of clothes inside my closet–a painful reminder of immoralities that I am capable in doing. Most people would always be jubilant when they hear they earned a prize, but instead, I just had my head down for the rest of the day, heavy with contempt. I could have went the right way, I was thinking. Each time I went out for the Writing Contest, I’ve always failed for the reason of my “stupid writing sense”, according to my lovable mom. For as long as I can remember, movies and television have been my escape. No matter what was going on in my life, I could always get lost in the fantastical adventures of Star Wars or even the mundane happenings in The Office.
