As stated in the syllabus provided by the instructor for the English 114 class, the peer review and 4 major assignments range in percentage of the grade for this class from 5% of your grade to 20% (Kouider, 2014). The peer review may only count for 10% of this course but, it allows a student to get critical feedback on major assignments and allow students demonstrate their strengths in another student’s area of weakness (Kouider, 2014). This portion of the course is very important due to the professional world this class is preparing a student for and allows a student to practice the professional communication. While at some colleges there are some professors that do not accept late work, in this class the instructor was very understanding and allowed submission of late work for reduced credit. As stated in the syllabus for this class, “Final drafts of Major Assignments may be submitted late for reduced credit. Your grade will drop a letter grade for every 24 hour period the assignment is late. Short assignments may be made up for half credit only” (Kouider, 2014). Although students should submit work on time to be academically successful in this course the instructor is still willing to be understanding to the issues a student may face. Reaching out to the professor of the course will help in understanding information that a student may not understand as well as allows the professor to understand that the student is committed to their academic

    Rhetoric In English 1002

In English 1002 you learn a style of writing that is vastly different than the writing I did throughout high school and it varied slightly from the work we did in the Fall 2016 semester. In high school, many of my papers could be written with little revision and they also focused mostly on literary responses, like writing book reports that took little effort and could be written along with the rubric and receive a good grade. In high school the most sources I was ever required to get was ten, so you can imagine how Unit II was a bit of a surprise that we needed fifteen sources just for the draft of our bibliography. The biggest lesson I have learned from this class is how to conduct real research. Before this class I never spent time looking for sources and just pulled pieces together to make them work together.…

Reflection The English 111 course is virtually, an opportunity to grow my creative writing skills and expand critical thinking abilities. Specifically, the focus on inquiry, content analysis, the application of various rhetoric writing strategies, the accurate development of theses and related statements, and the audience awareness are the primary components that ensure steady academic growth. In essence, the sheer focus on critical writing facilities ensure that one learns the English language from a very cognitive supported point of view. Personally, I am now at a better place when organization of thought and the subsequent presentation in all formats are concerned. Every time a due date would come up for a major assignment, we took time to review each other’s work. I do not remember much from these various encounters, but I do remember receiving helpful comments. Granted, I may have felt upset by some of the things said, but I knew that the criticism I had received was right, and I wanted to do better because of the evaluations. This was unusually for me because before this course, I would hardly listen to others since I thought I was always right. Yet, that changed because I wanted to improve my writing, and to do that I had to listen to other people’s ideas.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. I know that ENC 1143 is more focused on reading a number of novels and being able to comprehend and ask questions about them, but I am not positive what kind of writing is expected in the class. I do know, however, that students come out of the class being able to understand higher level text, and are able to write at a very high level. Having recently taken ENC 1101, I will be ready for the course load and will have writing skills fresh in my mind. I believe that the skills and assets I learn in ENC 1143 will be used in any reading and writing I do for years to come. I have always…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish.
