Elective Student Reflection Essay

Reflection is examine own feelings, thoughts, and response as well as the others in a situation (Somevilla & Keeling, 2004). For me as a senior elective student reflection is significant for self-awareness, which includes my behavior and interaction with the staff, patients, and attendant. Moreover, it encourages me to know my strengths and areas of improvement. According to Somevilla & Keeling (2004) “Reflective practice is important for everyone and nurses in particular for a number of reasons. First, nurses are responsible for providing care to the best of their ability to patients and their families”. I use to here that “Practice makes man perfect” and “experience is the best teacher”. Though it needs a lot of hard work to be a perfect and best in our profession. Those nursing staff came from outside hospitals or nursing schools. Most of them thought that to adjust in this environment is very tough task for a novice. They are right, because when I started my job, I was also anxious that how to do medications alone, how to communicate patients, and handle patients independently? I have mentored that staff because, is an effective way to encourage novice to work competently. Moreover, on feedback and idea shared with the management that the staff needs supervision to give care to five patients independently. I felt good because, the step is taken by the HN and CNI to assign him under-supervision of senior staff. Moreover, they observed and assessed him while performing skills, includes bedside management, orders followed, over taken and given and asked him about patient disease process and further treatment plans.
