My Difficulty Of Time Strategies For First Year College Students

Improved Essays
During the last past ten weeks I have been challenged with my writing class. I have always had difficulty writing.
Time strategies that I employed this term include, a weekly and daily schedule. In it, is a good idea to jot down time taken by “fixed commitments” (Hazard & Nadeau, 2012, p. 65). By having a schedule to follow per day and per week, I am able to track what it is that I need to work on. Much time is occupied by assignments. This term was different than last term in several ways. First, the work load has increased, and so has the difficulty of the material. However, being able to manage my time I have been able to finish my major assignments on time. I am confident that this strategy will help me finish all my assignments due on

It is all part due to five signature themes, especially discipline, and responsibility. Under discipline, Clifton, Anderson and Schreiner (2006) conclude, “your world needs to be predictable. It needs to be ordered and planned. So you instinctively impose structure on your word. You set up routines. You focus on timelines and deadlines” (p. 45). This is very true regarding my persona. Deadlines, and assignments are always in my mind, I prioritize work before anything else. I cannot ignore assignments or deadlines like other people seem to be able to do with ease. My responsibility theme also plays a major role in my time management skills. Clifton, Anderson and Schreiner (2006) state, “your responsibility theme forces you to take psychological ownership for anything you commit to, and whether large or small, you feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion” (p. 62). Academics is something that I prioritize. I don’t let other things steer me away from my academic …show more content…
(Hazard & Nadeau, 2012). It can be helpful to switch to another subject, to retain interest. Something else that they suggest is “plan a schedule of balanced activities” this is especially helpful against procrastination because you want to limit your leisure time so you have time to work on your assignments. (Hazard & Nadeau, 2012, p. 79) Something else I would suggest is, making a weekly and daily schedule, such as the “Flex time” strategy, which can be a great tool that can help you keep track of your classes, assignments, as well as free time that you have available. Another piece of advice I would give to CORE 102 students is, “start assignments early” this advice can be used for any class, not just CORE 102. By starting your assignments early, you have a better understanding of how long an assignment might take you. You will also be able to determine how to manage your time, including free time to accommodate all of your

Constant battles for a student’s time and attention from multiple classes, clubs, sports, and activities create a challenging environment. What is the answer when there are only twenty-four hours in a day? Multitasking. While juggling multiple projects and assignments, respectively with separate deadlines and due dates, “getting a complete task done in the least amount of time is no longer the priority” (Doc B). Each academic individual has a unique schedule, packed with different assignments and obligations.…

I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

Understand how to plan and prioritise work and be accountable to others 1.1 Explain the purpose and benefits of planning work, and being accountable to others for own work Prioritising my workload is essential to my role and in my opinion the most effective way to manage my work, ensuring deadlines are met on time and that work flows in a smooth and orderly fashion. Dependent on the nature of the work, I must use my initiative to determine which task is of most importance and complete tasks in order of priority. This method allows me to plan the order in which I complete tasks and ensures high priority work is tackled first, leaving more general less important tasks such as filing until a later time to free up additional time for work of…

TMA 07: Critical Review AA100 The Arts Past and Present was my first module with the Open University which has been a massive learning curve both in studying and being disciplined with my time to study. Over the months of studying there have been modules which I assumed I would thoroughly enjoy and modules which I assumed I would dislike, however this thinking has turned out to be the complete opposite. Use of my study time is something that I have found challenging at times as the modules have progressed and increased in difficulty. I have also found that you need to be especially self-motived and disciplined when completing each module.…

When I think of writing time, I think of a nice, calm classroom where everyone is solely focused on their work, getting it done, which is exactly what Thacker’s classroom sounds like. Growing up and in classrooms I have seen, some teachers set up a calming environment to help the students focus in on their work by playing soft music and setting up areas where students can go alone and work. In previous field experience in talking with the teacher, they say that keeping a routine is very important so the students know what to expect because if you change the schedule up, behavior may change and the students could be confused. Thacker has many strong points in her article with being open and honest about what she does and how students react to the way she runs her classroom, more specifically during writing. I did not notice any weak points.…

I've always struggled with my writing and organizer and always been behind, but now I understand my topics and what I'm supposed to be writing. One of my greatest strengths is being able to create a story out of anything, I also took it in my hands to make sure all my questions are answered to understand what I'm writing about. I have been attending the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) for over five years and during my time here some of my skills improved. Many of the skills that improved are the ones that have helped me and will continue to help me through college. I do not think I would still be at CCRI if these did not improve. My skills that mostly improved are time management, note taking, and participation. Time management was a skill that I used to be horrible with, but got better with time.…
