These improvements can deter suspicious activity and can stop shooters from entering the school.Porter reports that Coeur d’Alene schools “For the first time, two police officers will patrol elementary schools”(Porter). This is significant because police are already there at Coeur d’Alene schools to protect students. They can react much faster to alert teachers and staff for a lockdown drill. All schools should have these police officers because the school security has increased significantly because they have not been attacked. Also if there are teachers armed or school security can be alerted to shut down the school. This can cause police to possibly capture the suspect without doing harm of hurting any students and staff because these schools have the power to electronically close hallway doors . Mo Canady said, “This summer, the organization trained more than 2000 law officers how to work with schools, more than three times the 600 who were trained last summer. The presence of police officers in elementary schools is going through a revival” (Marklein). These areas can affect the visibility of cameras. These cameras have the possibility of allowing school officials to lockdown corridors and classrooms. For instance “In a large high school building, it is possible that surveillance could pinpoint the location of the threat and allow safe evacuations from other parts of the building”( Walsh). This system can save lives by causing students and staff to leave the building and possibly alert law enforcement to handle the threat. School security officers can also watch the camera to watch for blind spots in the building. These blind spots are areas that are not watched by cameras.Changing the location of cameras can eliminate these blind spots. John Alberghini said “also believes interior surveillance could help authorities especially in an extended threat” (Walsh). This process can potently save lives.By alerting authorities police can come and lock down the school . By doing this, apprehending the gunman can be easier since he would be in one place. If the intruder escaped, the cameras could get an image for police to alert people to be on the lookout for this criminal. This can save lives since the police would know what the suspect would look like, and people also know what the person is. The location of doors in the building is a big factor for safety. For example at CVU “Instead of three open doors ...there are now two and are in close proximity”(Walsh). The fewer the
