As we know speaking skills a very important role in learning. A person who communicates well and has good speaking skills does not necessarily use big words and elaborate jargon. In fact those things can serve to turn a listener off. They feel patronised, inadequate and frustrated if someone is using fancy language. The point of communicating is to convey information, to share with others and to have a two-way exchange. Communicating, to whatever size of audience, requires the speaker to encourage people to listen, engage, take on board what is being said and process that information with a view to doing something with it. The ability to speak, listen, understand and render feedback is an art. There is a significant difference between talking and communicating. While I have no problem talking, I do struggle with communication. Clearly stating my point is a challenge, I have worked to correct throughout my career. I often make my point well known, but then I continue making the same point in a conversation. Repetition is not always a bad thing because people need to hear things in different ways to learn and to have an impact on their thinking. However, I need to gage the audience to determine if I have made my point and move on. While I genuinely care about others and welcome feedback, I opening omit that actively listening is attribute that I lack. I have invested time and effort in improving this vital skill, though it is far from natural. I am an avid problem solver , but I need to give others the opportunity to express their opinions, ideas, and thoughts without interrupting and imposing my…

If a student is able to communicate, he or she has a better chance of being employed or promoted (Pan). Additionally some companies use presentations "as a gauge of a candidate’s professional and emotional competence during job interviews," (Pan). Knowing how to communicate effectively can help to avoid expensive mistakes and make things run much more smoothly bringing better results. Wrench et al. say that "Once you’ve learned the basic skills associated with public speaking, you’ll find that being able to effectively speak in public has profound benefits, including influencing the world around you, developing leadership skills, becoming a thought leader," (14). They go on to say that executives spend millions of dollars on public speaking workshops, coaches, books CDs and DVDs (Wrench et al. 14-15). Taking a public speaking class would also help people learn to face their fears. Jeremiah Massengale says, "A public speaking course is almost guaranteed to build your confidence. You’ll learn to stand before a group of people, make a lot of eye contact, and engage them with conviction. While the nervousness that comes with speaking in front of a crowd won’t entirely disappear, the course will teach you how to deal with your fears and turn your weakness into strength." Additional reasons that a required public speaking course would be a good idea are the extra…

Richard Lederer says, “Small words are the ones we seem to have known from the time we were born, like the hearth fire that warms the home.” It is easy to express our mind in short words, so we will automatically choose short words instead of using big words expressly, which makes small words widely be used. The people who are not using English as the first language use short words much more than big words, and it is even has no advantages using big words while interacting with them. As for me, It is effective and natural to use short words build up communication and discussion with not only other international students, but also native…

The greatest leaders of all time are also excellent communicators and orators as people often recognize the value of those who can communicate effectively. Communication between people will also be more effective if the speakers adjust to listeners and vice versa. This is because the listeners may misjudge the messages that the speaker never intended. Other than that, we also have to adapt to the communication styles of different generations as all generations come with different characteristics that will affect intergenerational communication. I recently started to practice communication skills with my family members at home and I realized that if you wish to have an effective conversation, you have to be surrounded in a comfortable environment as well as choosing the right time to initiate the conversation. My interviewee also mentioned that we have to communicate earnestly with as much clarity as possible, this will ensure that the person we communicate with understands what we are talking about.…

I use my public language to talk to people throughout my life. Another way I use it is to write while studying to prepare for preaching. As I preach I have some written words on a paper to help me speak to the public. Not all my speaking is eloquent so one understands what I’m talking about. I have come to learn it does not take great words in which to communicate with a community. The Spirit of God shall give unto you what He wants the congregation to receive for that day. If you trust in Him God shall give you what to say at all public speaking. My textbook allowed me to know words are flexible tools for self-expression. Reynolds gave examples of it being a slow process, like learning to ride a bike, or drive a stick shift car, even operate…

A good communicator is not the one who is able to speak the most but the one who is able to listen (Good 1). You can speak all day long, if you don 't listen to the others you will not be as successful as you can (Good 1). I feel as though people who talk a lot don’t know how to communicate because they don’t hear what anybody else has to say. When you are too busy speaking you can’t listen, and you have to be able to have others input to have a conversation. No one likes having a one-sided conversation, I know I don’t. Most people like to give their views on what’s being spoke about. In a job setting you don’t want the manager who is always talking and not taking input from his/her employees. And as a manager you don’t want the employee who is always talking because you will see that person as a…
