At present time different projects, programs and policies are being invented or developed around the world. The point is that all these actions bring social impacts or, saying in other words, bear consequences, which affect the lifestyle of people, their work, personal relationships and communication within society. In turn, there is a term “social impact assessment (SIA)”, which is used to assess, analyze and control these effects. Social impact assessment can be applied to estimate positive and negative consequences in order to predict results from projects, programs or policies. This essay focuses on the analysis of social impact assessment: its definition, purposes and applicability. In addition, the significance of social impact assessment and challenges while its implementation into sustainable development are going to be discussed.

For example, when one lives near the project being developed, he will be concerned about the impacts of this project. However, if SIA team introduces that person into the process, his doubts will decrease and perhaps even the results of SIA will be more accurate due to the person’s involvement
