Weber believed that social class is also a result of power, which offers an individual to get his or her way, despite opposition. Weber observed that class and status shape one’s opportunities. While we think of success as the only result of our talent and effort, our social position is in many ways a result of our family’s social status. Wealthy people tend to be more powerful than poor people, and power can come from an individual’s prestige. Weber argued that property could also bring prestige, since people are likely to hold wealthy people in high value. He concluded that owning property, such as factories or equipment, is only part of what determines a person’s social class. Nonetheless, people who run corporations without owning them still benefit from production and profits. For Weber, wealth and prestige are associated together. Considering Weber’s and Marx’s theories of social class, we will perceive how social status is a determining factor in life
