The importance of the ranking system seen all the way through Animal Farm, is that it is directly related to that of the Russian Revolution. Although this was the intended theme of the novel, the average reader may not pick up on the smaller signals if they weren’t caught up on historic events. This would be the military officials and police that governed the lower classes. In the novel it seems as though this would be the group of dogs that live on the farm. They follow what they are told and are kept around in order to keep the farm in check when things get out of hand. This might be combined with either the low middle class or the higher parts of a low class of merchants. This would be the sheep, who aren’t very high on the chain, but still aren’t as low as the bottom class. This bottom class was a group of uneducated, hard working individuals that spent their whole life providing for the wellbeing of the nation but didn’t get nearly anything in return. This was clearly the character Boxer throughout this story. The other horses and the donkey were mentioned but Boxer stood out the most. He had all of the power and strength he needed to overthrow the unfair leaders but
