This is my second time to do service learning at this medium church, Mount Hope United Methodist Church. The church itself locates at the corner of East Mount Hope Avenue cross with South Cedar St. My role here stills same that every Wednesday I have to tutoring one on one with kids and eating a meal with them. However, this time I have to work with new youth coordinator Mrs. Benth St. John as previous youth coordinator Mrs. Colleen Treman has retried. Mrs. Benth is very kind and friendly person; my colleague and me have a great time with her.
It has many reasons why I chose to come here again. Firstly, I already know some stuff about this church. Secondly, this place also the place where I learn the feeling of becomes a giver, and the feeling of

No doubt, working with these kid make me need to be more critical thinking person in order to find a various ways to teach my fellow students, as individual student is different from another. It’s impossible that you can teach every kid in a same pattern. Some kid you will find it very easy to teach whatever you tell them, they can understand in the first time. In the other hand, you will also find another kid that you need to repeat concept many time, and him/her still doesn’t understand it.
In the end, I would say that I am feeling thankful to my decision for being a part of service learning program. This program gives me an opportunity to pass my knowledge to someone, and make someone life becomes better, like teaching this immigrant kids. Further, it also give me a new perspective of being a tutor that it not a boring job as I always think instead it quite an interesting and fun thing to

I firmly believe that every child learns differently. Some children learn by listening, others learn from peers, some may learn by using a manipulative and others may learn by reading. Whatever a child’s learning style is, I plan on incorporating that into my classroom everyday. I believe that a child needs more positive enforcement in his/her lives then they do negative. They do not need to be constantly put down for the things they have done wrong, rather they should be praised for the things that they have done right.…

Vygotsky feels “ that all children develop by play and to take students with disabilities out of the equation can be departmental to their cognitive but also social development”(Mallory & New, 1994, p.331). For teachers it may become extremely difficult to manage and provide equal opportunities for all students, but including students with disabilities you are giving them then chance to socially engage and learn with their peers. Constructivists say that you learn from collaborating with your peers and listening to their thoughts and ideas. However, an inclusion style classroom is not for all students with disabilities but it is a good place to…

Also, where they feel comfortable to explore, enjoy to learning, and being able to express themselves. I also want them to learn about love, kindness, honesty, patience, and cooperation so they can develop higher skills such as working in a team or self- motivation. Teaching isn’t just a daily routine of learning about specific topics but creating a relationship so they know that you’re there for them and so they know they are on a path of discoveries about themselves through their education. Being an early childhood educator means one must challenge and guide in a direction that meets the needs of the students (Roles, 2008). Teachers should give up the notion that they know everything because we are day by day learning with the children and share in their experiences (Roles,…

Another thing that I think will be my responsibility as a teacher is to be able to answer my kids when they say “when are we ever going to use this in life.” In many cases I believe that the answer will come easy however, in some scenarios it may be a little harder. You always need to have a purpose of learning something, but some things you are just required to teach even if you don’t think it is particularly important that the students know it later on in life. One thing I read in the Mike Rose article that would help me when it is harder to answer that question is that we educate for a number of reasons, “to…

Although I cannot say that I have had a tremendous influence on the two young men that I tutored, I can say that it appeared as if once they started doing better on the subject that I was assisting them in, they grew in confidence and they became more eager to learn. Moreover, service learning taught me valuable insights about how the real world of teaching operated. Service learning allows those that are involved to get a hands-on teaching experience, but on a smaller scale. By limiting yourself to one or two students, the tutor is able to comprehend how much work goes into helping students and allows them to learn how to differentiate or make instructions and knowledge more accessible. By doing service learning, therefore, tutors learn how to assist student’s needs on a smaller scale, so that later when they have a broader network of students, they already have an idea how to help them and maximize their learning experience.…

I found the church to be a place where I would just sit, color, and attend Sunday school. As I grew older, I found the adults of my home church to be very accepting and encouraging me in all of my school activities that I participated in. I was always being asked how school, dance, or cheerleading were going. I would give them one’s typical response by saying “good!” However, this was never where the conversation ended. They would then proceed to ask me, “when is your next game?” or “when is your next recital?” and then they would conclude with “I’m hoping to make it to that game” or “I’m hoping to make it to your…
