The church itself locates at the corner of East Mount Hope Avenue cross with South Cedar St. My role here stills same that every Wednesday I have to tutoring one on one with kids and eating a meal with them. No doubt, working with these kid make me need to be more critical thinking person in order to find a various ways to teach my fellow students, as individual student is different from another. It’s impossible that you can teach every kid in a same pattern. Some kid you will find it very easy to teach whatever you tell them, they can understand in the first time. In the other hand, you will also find another kid that you need to repeat concept many time, and him/her still doesn’t understand it.
In the end, I would say that I am feeling thankful to my decision for being a part of service learning program. This program gives me an opportunity to pass my knowledge to someone, and make someone life becomes better, like teaching this immigrant kids. Further, it also give me a new perspective of being a tutor that it not a boring job as I always think instead it quite an interesting and fun thing to

Why do people want to attend a service academy? Is it because of a title, or honor, or does it have to do with the idea to prove themselves? These are all questions that race through the head of people who hear about people wanting to attend a service academy. Not only is it a competitive field to apply and get accepted, but if accepted to a service academy a person will be academically, physically, and mentally challenged. If I was asked four years ago, I would have told a person that I didn’t even know about a service academy.…

“The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” This proverb sums up everything I went through when I recently attended the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar in July. While there, I was pushed well beyond my limits. We, the attendees, did strenuous physical training sessions at roughly a mile above sea level, woke up before the sun rose, attended sample classes, and studied tons of military knowledge while learning about the Air Force Academy and the admission process. It was truly a challenge being there, and I loved every minute of it!…

For my service-learning project I volunteered at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. I choose to speak to Mrs. Williams for my first service learning paper. She is retired, married, and a mother of two children. At age 11 she started work on a plantation to help earn money for her family, after her father’s sudden death. Working at such a young age prevented her from receiving an education. She feels ashamed for not being able to read or write, which kept her from building friendships because she did not want anyone to know of lack of education.…

Service learning project For my service learning project, I choose to interview a coworker. I honestly did not know if he was religious or not, but my gut told me he was going to be a great interview. Being a student has taught me various things forcing me to change the way I look and approach things. In particular as an individual I have learned things as a writer, student, and human while doing a class assignment. The class assignment is a service learning project that consisted of doing research, interviewing, and volunteering in a field of the students choosing. For my service learning I choose the issues of corporations entering the real estate market. The reason I decided to do my service learning on that was since I have a personal connection to it.…

In general, I enjoy going to service learning. Being involved in service learning has made me feel like I held more capital within the confines of my social space; a rather empowering feeling. While I’m there, my state of mind is not limited to this feeling of self-worth as I find myself more focused on engaging with the kids and being what I deem a good role model. It is during these reflections that I find myself believing I am actually a better person for attending. I attribute this to my improvements when interacting with the younger kids and being able to prevent conflict.…

Unlike other students in my class, the place where I did my service learning was a little bit different. What made it so different was that there was a lot more, at least I felt, elderly people as opposed to people with disabilities. Sure they may have been a few that if you went there you could maybe tell that they were disabled but honestly, after putting in so many years of visiting nursing homes with multiple groups, I couldn’t even tell if the younger people there were there for the program, or just hanging out with the elderly. As a side comment this could have been because one of the groups that I went with just happened to be a group of people with mental challenges, so that could have added to the confusion. Anyway, as I have said because of my past experiences I can’t really tell what’s what sometimes.…

As mentioned in the article posted by UM, faculty benefit personally and professionally from integrating service into their courses by encouraging interactive teaching methods, which add new insight to discussion in the classroom (Benefits of Service-Learning). By doing so, teachers are able to promote students to apply themselves more, and become more active learners. In my service learning, I was able to have that hands-on experience. This helped provide an opportunity for myself to become more creative and become an active learner. In some classes, applying myself to learn was difficult, but through service-learning assignments, I gained new knowledge.…
