For the purpose of this assignment I choose self-assessment questionnaire to assess my managerial abilities and asked for an assessment from Anil Gupta, my father, with who I have worked the longest, and Ashu Gupta, my mother, who is the head manager of our company. My self-assessment indicated that my skills are within the first quadrant with a score of 399/432. My father’s assessment of my managerial skills was surprisingly pleasant to see, he gave me the highest score, 407 out of 432. Whereas, my mother was a bit more critical towards it and gave me 353/423. They both also gave me a written feedback with points to improve. Ashu Gupta suggested that I need to gain more experience in decision making and also that I need to spend more time …show more content…
However, I believe competences most important for me in the future will be networks and change management. Networks can provide you the edge in today’s competitive market. Leaders can use networks to influence people and they can tap into valuable information with the help of their social capital. Having a larger and diverse networks gives the advantage of brokerage, people with diverse connections have more exposure and a better understanding of alternative methods of thinking, this view is supported by Ronald S Burt (2004). Studying in the University of Melbourne for the next 2 years I have a lot of potential to develop my networks as socializing in this culturally diverse environment can lead to forming of many valuable contacts from different parts of the world. Also, managing change will be the most important aspect in my career in the future as traditional forms of business are slowly becoming obsolete and the today’s technologically advanced market is being dominated with e-commerce (Ramcharran,H,2013) . Therefore, I need to develop my skills to help guide my family business through this changing era. Also, the growing cultural change due to the rapidly increasing globalization, will pose a big challenge for management because cultural change will bring along changes in customer’s preferences, decisions, work environment, employees needs and motivation incentives
