Imagine that that you have found that one special person that you truly want to start a life with. You and this person connect on so many levels, you can even call it love. You want to marry this person, but you are not allowed to because this person is the same gender as you are. Unfortunately, this is just one of many struggles that gay and lesbian couples have to deal with on a daily basis. Same-sex marriage is surrounded by a lot of conflicts. People who are against same-sex marriage, believe that it violates tradition. Most people assume that marriage is just about one male and one female, but that is not true. Tradition is not just about marriage, it also includes women did not have rights, people owned slaves, and when people were thought to have committed a crime were executed solely based on the accusation and not evidence. It is now 2016 and tradition has completely change since then. Since 1920 women have rights, slaves are no longer owned, and those who are accused of a crime are given a fair trial, if they are convicted they are sent to jail. Is same-sex marriage violating tradition when tradition has changed? Just because same-sex marriage was legalized the united states does not mean that it will be legalized globally. There are a lot of countries that are against same-sex marriage, and that will not be changing anytime soon. However same-sex couples should have a place where they can feel safe and live happy
