I believe that one solution we can do to mitigate water consumption in the world is to encourage people to plant more drought-tolerant plants or even native plants in our lawns and backyards instead of using sod or grass, especially in areas like California or Arizona. This is called xeriscaping, and it can prove to be extremely important for many communities. Although this solution doesn’t always apply across the entire world, it is achievable and realistic, and with the growing rates of drought globally, according to the EPA, it could soon prove to be an act that could save tons of water if new areas become drought-prone. Plants like cacti, lavender, sage, poppies, agave, and other desert plants are well-suited to drier climates, requiring less water to grow than grass or other plants.
