Importance Of Safety Culture In The Workplace

Several measures can be taken to incorporate safety culture at work place. In order to implement safety culture at work place organizations should take into consideration the behavioral aspect of each and every employee. The other term used to describe this is called as behavioural based safety measure. Such kind of measure can be taken by the peer observations to check the involvement of the employees, safety assessment at workplace and loop holes prevailing over there. Behaviour- based safety is a reliable tool to measure safety of the employees as it is an intensely analytical, object oriented and data-driven approach focusing on safety-related behaviors performed by employees of the organization (Tharaldsen & Haukelid, 2009). They should take a support of several research and try to amend the laws accordingly. The laws should be in such a way that they are practical and can be followed by everyone. There should be a clear communication among the employees and employers in terms of workplace safety. Their issues should be resolved quickly. From above supporting data it is clear that laws and legislature just give an overview of safety at workplace. They are fruitful only if they are practiced at site thoroughly. Hence there should a safety culture in an organization which ensure, that safety at workplace is above all. Even senior employees should take up responsibility to maintain safe environment at workplace. Thus safety culture and leadership are the two tools which should be used extensively to reduce accidents at workplace. Employers should promote time to time assessment of employees on their behavior towards workplace safety. It should be made clear that safety is a basic necessity for each and every employee as well as employers, agencies and government. In a long run if the workplace injuries and accidents are reduced, it will definitely help the employers as the productivity will increase because of healthy and vital workforce. This will in turn help the nation in improving the economy. Thus in order to achieve this, accident rates should reduce and employees should incorporate a safety behavior at workplace.
