In supermarkets such as Tesco there are displays for products that rely on the packaging to help sell the product. At Tesco they said their goal was to make their secondary packaging “ready-made” meaning when they are putting the product on shelves they can tear off the top and set the rest of the package on the shelf. There is not extra work that needs to be done to set up the product, it would be all ready in a box that when the top is removed doubles as a display. There are a lot of opportunities for new products to come through large retailers because of their flexibility and ability to adapt to new trends. Tesco had a home section that would change every two to three weeks as well as a wall of the most popular food so customers could find it easily. It is usually in bigger cities where people buy produce and food daily, large markets where people are free to buy the amount they want. It means that people come to the market with their own bags and containers to store whatever food they are buying. No packaging is required because everything is out in the open or in clear bins but there is absolutely no branding involved. The food does need packaging while it is being transported but that would not be retail packaging because the consumer never sees it. These types of markets have the benefit of being more environmentally friendly since nothing has packaging consumers see it as being no waste. They also have the choice of how much they are buying of a product as compared to everything prepackaged, consumers may not necessarily want that much of a
