Register to read the introduction… Research is carried out into a particular issue, and decisions are made about how changes could be implemented in order to fill these gaps and ensure that the needs of the particular group are adequately met, (Talman, 2010). An example of research to inform policy or practice can be underprivileged children in deprived areas of Britain, as they have more of a risk of suffering from respiratory diseases. This is because they are in low income families and bad housing, therefore there is more dampness and mould, which can cause respiratory diseases. Research is carried out on this issue and it has found out that underprivileged children in deprived areas of Britain are more likely to suffer from respiratory diseases. Decisions are then made on how to ensure that the needs of the children are up to standards and are met. This could be by improving housing qualities or opening up more health clinics in order to treat the respiratory problems the children are …show more content…

It is important to conduct research in areas of health and social care in order to identify needs, provide further knowledge and highlight gaps in provision. Research allows improvements to be made too many provisions that have immediate everyday importance, (Talman, 2010). An example of examining topics of contemporary importance can be forced marriages. This is due to better supervision needs to be put into place to support the young people who are being forced into a marriage they do not want to be in. there are many other contemporary topics of importance, including: genetic research, cloning, use of stem cell research and the emergence/re-emergence of life threatening diseases, illnesses and viruses such as TB, AIDS/HIV, (Talman,
