I believe that my admission to the KU School of Nursing would contribute to this philosophy in many ways. I was raised in a community where a Hispanic woman, like myself, was not expected to graduate from high school, let alone attend college. The expectations for minorities are not set as high, which is unbelievable and also very sad. There is hope for minorities like me and I believe that my admission into your school would show my community as well as many patients that minorities can have a successful career and anybody can rise beyond where they were raised. I graduated from high school with honors, as well as with a full-ride scholarship to college. This was not easy at all for me, but despite everything, I graduated and went off to college, just as I promised my father I would. Being the oldest of my siblings, I had the responsibility to be a role model for them, and I am. The death of my father left us in a very bad financial situation. If it were not for my Kauffman Scholars Scholarship, I would not be here right now, typing this essay. Receiving the Kauffman Scholar Scholarship was another great accomplishment and a tremendous help. Additionally, while the loss of my father was very difficult for me, I hope to use that experience as a way to connect with my patients and their families on an emotional level. Admission into your program would bring with it my experience as a CNA. I have had so many great experiences as a CNA that are memorable. There are patients I will never forget because of everything I learned while working with them. When I first received my CNA, I was scared of making a mistake on the job, but as I started working, the fear quickly went away. Being with and caring for a patient all came naturally for me. I was a successful CNA because of the type of person I am: very patient, kind, a good communicator, and able to have empathy and compassion for all types of

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

I was born and raised in Michigan. I grew up in an area known as Downriver, where I still reside today. My high school and the barn where I work/volunteer are both within 3 miles of my home, which is why moving to Michigan State University in East Lansing to join the other 50,000 undergraduate students was such a substantial change. I’ve always been adaptable and driven to succeed, so the adjustment to life in East Lansing was not a difficult one for me. Since I’ve been enrolled as a student at Michigan State University, I was granted the extraordinary opportunity to work at the Michigan State University Horse Teaching & Research Center while also being involved in both the Stock Seat Equestrian Team and the Horse Judging Team where I’ve been extremely successful.…
